The Hanasi Lake lays in the Altai area, far from the southern deserts. Just a few kilometers away from both Russia , Mongolia and Kazakhstan , this alpine landscaped area has nothing in common with rest of the province.
Until recently this was just the place where Kazak and Mongol nomads spent the summer but the beauty of the scenery has attracted the tourism.
The surroundings of the lake are being developed as a luxury “resort” for the Chinese tourism industry. All around you can see uniformed groups of tourist wearing the same red cap.
There is always the option of leaving the beaten tracks. If you follow some of the many rivers for a while you will finally come across some remote group of yurts in the middle of the grasslands where the traditional way of life is still preserved.
This is a four country border area and it is frequent to find surprising racial mixtures: blue almond-shaped eyes, blond hair... |
