Por el borde sur del desierto del Taklamakhan y a los pies de la meseta del Tibet discurre otra de las ramas de la Ruta de la Seda. Yarkand y Hotan son dos grandes etapas de este corredor.
Ambas ciudades tienen mucho en común con Kasgar: las mezquitas, el artesanado, el comercio, los bazares del domingo... Pero carecen de su atmósfera fronteriza. Son ciudades puramente uygures. Esto también implica que la influencia Han se deja sentir menos y que “modernizacion” avanza más despacio.

On the south edge of the Taklamakhan desert, at the feet of the Tibetan plateau, runs one of the branches of the Silk Road . Yarkand and Hotan are two important stops. Both cities have a lot in common with Kasgar: the mosques, the craftsmen, the Sunday bazaars… but they lack its frontier atmosphere. Those are purely Uygur cities. That also means that the Han influence is less visible and that the “modernization” advances more slowly. |
