This city is an oasis on the edge of the Gobi desert. The city is surrounded by orchards watered by ditches. Is difficult to imagine where all the water comes from judging from the dry surroundings. The Mogao caves are nearby the city. This set of caves excavated in a cliff, allows the visitor to contemplate the evolution of the buddhist art along one thousand years.
As we get to the west of the country the appearance of the people changes gradually. In Dunhuang the Moslem minority starts to turn into majority.
